Campaigns
The NSWNA has several campaigns in action to improve the working lives of our members and to defend our rights at work including the following:
| Organising For Safe Patient Care: 2010 Public Health System Pay and Conditions Campaign | |||||||
The improvements to staffing won in our pay and conditions campaign are excellent but there is still work to be done in order to make the benefits tangible.Our next task is to successfully implement these improvements so these gains become reality and our workplaces are less stressed, nurses’ jobs are more satisfying and patients reap the benefits with better care. » more |

| Climate Change and Health | ||||||
Four years ago climate change became an important political issue in Australia as the alarming prognosis of the science and the consequences for our planet became appreciated by the wider public.While the politicians have been squabbling, the planet has continued to warm. Climate change is a very important health issue and will have major consequences for our already overloaded health system and for nursing. Climate change is a seminal health issue and the consequences of inaction will be catastrophic. It is important that nurses understand this issue and contribute to finding a solution. |

| Defend Ratios:Reject Recommendation 22 | ||||||
Last year the O'Farrell government passed laws that capped public health sector nurses' wage increases at 2.5% and rendered the NSW Industrial Relations Commission powerless as an independent umpire in wage negotiations. Now the NSW state government has flagged a second wave of attacks against the working conditions of public sector workers including nurses. Barry O’Farrell has accepted the broad thrust of a new report commissioned by his government that advocates the removal of conditions such as ratios from your award. | Because We Care - Aged Care Can't Wait | ||||||
|
Nurses and assistants in nursing working in aged care and public health in the Federal electorate of New England have joined together to seek Tony Windsor's support. By supporting aged care in Budget 2012, Tony Windsor can make a real difference to thousands of older Australians living in New England.
PETITION TO TONY WINDSOR. By signing the petition, we are asking our local MP, Tony Windsor to: 1. Make Budget 2012 the aged care budget; 2. Ensure quality of care by guaranteeing a minimum number of nurses to residents on every shift; 3. Ensure that Budget 2012 commits the funds to close the wages gap and guarantee nurses remain in aged care. Click Here To Find Out How You Can Get Involved » more |
