National Preventative Health Strategy launched. The Minister for Health and Ageing, the Hon Nicola Roxon, launched the National Preventative Health Strategy on 1 September.
National Preventative Health Strategy Summary
The Strategy provides a blueprint for tackling the burden of chronic disease currently caused by obesity, tobacco, and excessive consumption of alcohol. It is directed at primary prevention and addresses all relevant arms of policy and all available points of leverage, in both the health and non-health sectors.
The Strategy comprises three parts: an overview, a roadmap for action, and technical papers focused on the three key areas – obesity, tobacco and alcohol. The documents are available at this site:

The Department of Health and Ageing has developed the yourHealth website to allow Australians to provide their views to the Australian Government about options to improve the health system.
Please use this site to learn about reform suggestions, provide your ideas and comments for the health system and your health experiences, and listen to the ideas and comments of other Australians. Your contributions will help the Government make decisions about how to improve the system.
The site has produced a fact sheet in regard to the National Preventative Health Strategy, but also includes information on a range of health issues. The yourHealth web address is www.yourhealth.gov.au.

Health Taskforce wishes you all a long, dull life with nanny

Yesterday’s National Preventative Health Taskforce’s report is a monument to why elites think the average Australian needs a nanny to hold their hand through daily life.
The three core chapters of the report analyse the great sins of our time – obesity, alcohol and smoking – and recommends Australians need help to stop making the wrong choices about what they put in their mouths.
The problems and solutions are entirely predictable. According to the taskforce, people get fat because they eat too much and don’t exercise enough. The taskforce’s solution – the government needs to make sure people eat less and exercise more. I could go on, but you get the picture.
