Why join?
Our members, working together over many years, have achieved great gains for nurses and midwives in NSW. By becoming a member, you add to the collective strength of our 55,000+ membership. You'll share the benefits of belonging and can participate in Association activities - as often or as little as you choose.Legal safety net
Membership offers the security of knowing that if you need assistance with a situation arising from work, eg. workers compensation, coroner's inquest or professional disciplinary hearings, we will provide you with appropriate legal representation.
Journey accident insurance
The Association has obtained Accident Journey Insurance for members in the wake of changes to Workers Compensation laws by the O'Farrell Government in June 2012. This insurance took effect from 5pm on 18 September 2012. The insurance provides for financial members up to 70 years of age. More information here.Occupational health and safety
Safety of members is a priority for the NSWNMA. Our occupational health and safety service provides advice that can protect you and your colleagues while you're at work and if problems arise we can insist on OH&S improvements on your behalf.
Information
Each month you'll receive a copy of our magazine, The Lamp, which will keep you up to date with news of the profession and NSWNMA activities. Many hospitals and workplaces in NSW have a branch of the NSWNMA that's run by nurses working there. These branch officials can assist you with most queries relating to your pay and conditions of employment. Or you can contact the Association for help with more complex or confidential issues.
Professional Indemnity Insurance
We now provide Professional Indemnity Insurance as part of NSWNMA membership. This is for nurses and midwives who work in states other than NSW, members working for a bankrupt employer whose insurances have not been maintained or members doing private nursing and midwifery work secondary to their main employment. Additionally, as a condition of registration, you can now automatically attest that you comply with AHPRA requirements. Members undergoing supervised practice to re-register are also covered. More information here.Confidential advice and assistance
A nursing career is stimulating, challenging and rewarding. There will be times in your career, though, when you need information, advice or assistance. In some instances this will be help that only the union is able to provide.
Professional development
As a member you will be able to attend our range of industrial, legal and professional education programs, seminars and conferences at subsidised or reduced rates.
Scholarships
Each year members and associate members are invited to apply for education, conference and research scholarships provided by the Edith Cavell Trust. Annually the Edith Cavell Trust provides over $100,000 to assist nurses with their professional development and further studies.
Retirement
The union has ongoing involvement in the improvement of both public and industry superannuation funds. Union representatives work to ensure that your superannuation funds are focused on securing your financial future.
